As all of you probably know, Downtown Miami is home to the Miami Jewlery District. Anchored by The Seybold Building, our district features hundreds of the nation's finest retailers and wholesalers. It was in researching this district that we came across Dasani Jewlers, authorized dealer for Pandora. Naveen, CEO of Dasani quickly introduced us to Pandora and its line of charm bracelets. One charm in particular captured our interest, "The Queen Bee", defined as "never underestimating the power of women". We saw in this piece an opportunity to bestow an outstanding woman the distinction of exemplifying that amazing power.
DowntownMiami.com and Dasani Jewelers decided to honor distinct "Queen Bees" throughout 2010. We knew we would know exactly who our first "Queen Bee" was meant to be. There are afterall, many women that inspire us for a variety of reasons. In a casual conversation with our friend Bryan, we happened to mention "The Queen Bee" and he asked we take a look at the Lily Ryan Foundation, a request that immediately lead us to our first "Queen Bee", Lily Ryan.
Her story is best explained in her own words, "Thursday, October 18, 2001, started out like any other day. I took my kids to school, went about my daily chores, picked the kids up from school, and got ready for an evening out with my boyfriend. There were less than 18 hours left of this life before it would veer drastically toward a place I only feared existed...it was the day that started me on the most defining path of my life. Lily's story captures the strength of a woman's determination to survive, the love of friends determined to see her conquer unbelievable odds, the passion to live her role as a mother, and true love. This survivor inspires all of us in some way and Lily has now formed the Lily Ryan Burn Foundation to help others in their own personal journey.
We will be honoring Lily at an intimate reception in 2010. We hope you will join us for this opportunity to meet Lily, a woman that exemplifies "Never Underestimating the Power of Women". We will be posting details soon, in the meantime, please read her story and contribute to this worthy cause.
