On Wednesday, January 24, the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority (MSEA) approved by a nearly unanimous vote the Resolution and Memorandum of Understanding to create a partnership with Friends of Miami Marine Stadium for the restoration and operation of the Stadium. The next step in the process is approval by the Miami City Commission. At the January 26th Commission meeting, one of the Commissioners requested a deferral to have more time to look at the Agreement. At the February 9th Commission meeting, another Commissioner was called away for a family emergency so the vote was postponed. We believe that we are close to passage-the item will be heard again very soon.
Thanks to everyone who emailed the Commissioners to support passage of the legislation. We may be calling on you again to show support, so stay tuned.
Friends of Miami Marine Stadium was formed in February 2008. We are now entering our fifth year of work on this project. It's been a long and challenging but rewarding effort. Initially, many people were skeptical-and most thought we would fail. We finally have developed a practical proposal to restore the Marine Stadium. However, we will continue to count on support to finish the job.

What a great project! I'm all for it! The Marine Stadium is such a unique structure and one of kind places in the U.S. It brings back many good memories to a lot of people. I remember going to see the cigarette boat races at the Marine Stadium in the '70's, and going to the beach at Virginia Key--hope they restore that, also.
