Blackbird Ordinary Set to Open at Transit Space
By DowntownMiami.com | Published: October 29 2011
It's an end of an era and the beginning of a new one. Transit Lounge has officially closed and new ownership for the space plans on opening "Blackbird Ordinary" in early December.

I remember the first time I walked into Transit Lounge. This was the favorite watering hole of someone I was dating thus the introduction to this iconic spot. I still recall the feeling walking pass the mural I had driven by a gazillion times and into this eclectic place. "Wow, this is a super cool place!", I "cheer"fully stated, yep sorta like a Miami version of "Cheers". The wall decor captivated me, miscellaneous eye candy of art, posters, signs...which continued all the way to the restrooms. I met "Red" the outgoing bartender who knew the regulars by name and tastes and there were many Transit regulars, chilling in this "just come as you are" type of atmosphere.
I found myself going back to Transit long (way long) after my relationship ended. At Transit Lounge I discovered local bands like "Suenalo", "Elastic Bond", "Spam All-Stars" and also caught up with performers from my high school days which were still jamming away to the tunes of yesterday.
A few months ago as I drove by the front of Transit for the gazillion +1 time, a "Transit Saved" banner caught my eye. "Whew", I thought...and then we got the news this week that Transit Lounge was "absolutely" no more. I'm pretty sure that the age range feeling the "blues" about this closing is wide like from 18-60+...me included (mid 40's). And then there's the "Transit Family", forming a strong bond with each other and the regulars, dealing with unexpected change in tough times. Hoping that they'll all find a place in Downtown Miami, maybe even the same spot. We hope they'll keep us posted on their status so we can let everyone know where to find them. This was one solid team...

So here's the latest on the location: Transit Lounge as we knew it has ended. According to the New Times, the space is currently closed and in the midst of a transformation expected to last around a month. "Blackbird Ordinary" will be opening up in early December the spot is the same with new ownership (from the Purdy Lounge Team), new name and brand new concept.
We will be there sometime in December to welcome in "Blackbird Ordinary" and make some new memories at this ideally located spot. We shall keep you posted!
