The Miami Dade College Culinary Institute is creating lots of buzz. From the cool Alpha-Bite Food Truck to an ultra chic restaurant, organic edible garden, and all the classes in-between.




John Richards CEC, CCA, CWPC, MBA -Director

With more than 30 years of industry experience chef John Richards, knows the key ingredients for success in culinary arts. Building upon his extensive culinary expertise, Chef Richards honed his business acuity by earning his MBA in business leadership from Sullivan University. Having performed his roles as executive chef, CEO and bassist, he joined the Miami Culinary Institute as director in 2010.

Through this role, he looks to enrich the minds of the culinary masters of tomorrow and evolve Miami’s food culture.




Chef Norman Van Aken is the Executive Chef at the Miami Culinary Institute and is overseeing the menu creation for the highly anticipated penthouse restaurant. "Tuyo" was the name chosen for this panoramic, intimate fine dining restaurant overlooking the Port of Miami, Freedom Tower, and American Airlines Arena. The official opening is slated for November and is just the latest in the excitement brewing at MDC Miami Culinary Institute.

There are many classes available including fun programs like The   where you will be greeted with a nibble and name tag. After an introductory cooking course in our food and wine theater, co-ed teams will cook a recipe from the evening’s menu in our cooking labs. You’ll sip on wine, listen to good music and get to know each other.

Word on the street is that the Alphabite Food Truck is the tastiest bite in town. Serving up fun food that is local, healthy and just all around good.


Alphabite creates fresh, delicious food every day based on the ever changing letter of the day. Look for the letter on the site, our tweet/text or even on the truck itself. If you see "Q" on the side of the truck, it can stand for barbecue, quinoa or Q-ban.
