Named Honorary Special “AMBASSADOR” For Miami-Dade County
Commissioner Jean Monestime, along with co-prime sponsor Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa, has named Emilio Estefan the first Special “AMBASSADOR' of Miami-Dade County on Tuesday, December 17.
After a unanimous vote by the Miami-Dade County commissioners, the four-year non-partisan position will allow for the ambassador to represent the region and promote cultural exchange. Estefan will not receive any monetary compensation for his position as ambassador. Among his duties, Mr. Estefan will help to encourage and promote the diversity of business and trade within South Florida.
The four-year unpaid position will allow for the Ambassador to represent the County and promote cultural exchange in Miami-Dade County. The Board of County Commissioners desired to appoint a Special Ambassador for the purpose of promoting increased interchange of ideas, trade, cultural exchange, goodwill, cooperation, and understanding on behalf of the citizens of Miami-Dade County. The appointment will be effective December 27, 2013. The position will be effective January 1, 2014.
“By creating a formal representative for the County’s cultural and trade aspirations, we can continue to develop our community as the nexus between music, art, culture, and trade,” explained Commissioner Monestime. “We feel that there is really no one in Miami that is more deserving of receiving this recognition and position than Mr. Estefan. For many years now he has become synonymous with the warmth and vibrancy that characterizes the city and he has embodied and represented the spirit and soul of Miami wherever he goes,”
Emilio Estefan is an entrepreneur and a 19-time Grammy Award winning producer, has become a cultural and philanthropic icon for Miami-Dade County. Among his many roles, Mr. Estefan has served as a member of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities and currently serves as a Commissioner for the National Museum of the American Latino.
